This Elluminate Live! session is on Wed 10th March from 2-3pm. Please register at http://bit.ly/Gm9Ni Presenters: Professor Janet Finlay (PC3 Director), Dawn Wood (PC3 Project Officer)The Curriculum Design project PC3 (Personalised Curriculum Creation through Coaching) is developing a framework to enable learners to assess their learning needs and personalise their curriculum to meet those needs. Access to this personalised curriculum is being facilitated through a credit-bearing module, which the learner takes at the beginning of their programme of study and from which they exit with a coherent curriculum plan and rationale. At the heart of this process is coaching: a non-directive, learner-oriented support approach. In this session we will briefly introduce the PC3 project and the rationale for its approach to curriculum design, including a discussion of the nature of coaching and what makes it different from other approaches to supporting learning. We will explore the benefits of the PC3 approach and highlight the challenges currently being faced by the project. Before the session, participants are encouraged to view three short role play videos, produced by the project, which aim to demonstrate the difference between coaching, as we are using it, and two other familiar support styles: tutoring and mentoring. The three videos address the same scenario of supporting a student in giving a presentation.
